A unique bird, once endangered, the Osprey now has regained its place of dominance as an apex predatory in Everglades National Park and other coastal areas throughout the United States. Its prevalance in the Park was also helped by the 1994 enactment banning inshore commercial netting in Florida. This ban has led drastic increases in the numbers of bait fish in Florida's coastal waters and the Osprey and other "fishing birds" have benefitted.
